I cannot believe that Thanksgiving is this weekend! The garden is definitely starting to slow down, but there are still lots of Dahlias and the Delphiniums are going strong. Their second bloom this year was a little late.

I will be busy putting together pre-picked buckets for pick up and a limited number of garden bouquets. It is getting slim picking for bouquet material, so if you are wanting a special bouquet this week, please let me know ahead of time.

Here was my booth last weekend at the Shed Row Market. What fun! and lots of great things to buy. I came home with lots of treasures.

This weekend I will be selling flowers at the Shed Row Market, just down the street from our farm. The Market is Sat 9:30 - 5 pm and Sunday 10 - 5 pm. The location is Fields and Flowers Farm, 900 232nd street. Over 25 artisan and vendors will be exhibiting in the weekend benefit of the New Stride Thoroughbred Adoption Society. The Picking garden is open this weekend and there are lots of dahlias to pick. I will also have lots of pre-picked buckets available. My Dad will be helping with flowers this weekend.

You never know what you will see in the garden. Isn't this little guy just amazing. I can't believe I actually got a picture of him. This is a new Dahlias called Elija Mason. What a great spot to stop for a rest.

Langley Art Studio Tour and Dahlia bouquets.

There are lots of events coming up in the next couple of weeks. The first is the Langley Art Studio Tour. This event is Sept 24-25 & Oct 1-2. It is a self guided tour with 43 artists, 17 working art studios and 6 new "stops of interest", a range of mini-workshops and demos, and plenty of art to be seen. I am one of the "stops of interest" and Official Guide-maps are available on site or check out the website. www.langleyartstudiotour.ca

I planted quite a few new dahlias this year and some of them are just spectacular. This bouquet is done with a new one called Sept Morn and Mellow Yellow. Is not the color just amazing!

This is not a new Dalia, but one of my favourite this time of year. I love the bold color combination of Blue, red and yellow.

I was playing today and came up with this vase for the store. A new Dahlia called Firebird and lots of grasses, hypericum, goldenrod and foliage. Very Fall inspired. I was definitely in a fall mood today with this rain.

I am back from a wonderful trip to Washington, Oregon and Northern California. I visited three different dahlia operations and the Farmer Market in Olympia, Washington. I sure did learn a lot! Good thing I took some notes. Below are pictures from Swan Island Dahlias in Canby, Oregan. They host a Dahlia Festival the last weekend in August and the first weekend in Sept. What a place to visit. There was over 40 Acres of Dahlias in bloom. Needless to say I have a large list of new varieties for next year.

Starting this week end I will be offering the Pre-Picked Bucket of Dahlias. So no matter what the weather is like you can still get flowers. I am slowly getting caught up with bouquets as well and will have the cooler full for the weekend. Come for a visit and I will tell you all about our trip.

I will be away from Sept 2 until Sept 16. I am off to see some dahlia farms, a Dahlia Festival with over 400 dahlia arrangements on display and numerous Farmers' Markets in Washington, Oregon and Northern California. I have never been to San Fransisco so that will be one of our stops in California. I am looking forward to seeing the Waterfront.

While I am away the U-Pick Garden and store are Open. Vivian will be in the store and you can pick yourself in the garden. The Dahlias are finally looking fabulous and need to be picked. Look at all that color!! I have also done up lots of bouquets, but they will sell out fast, so come and get one this weekend or early next week.

There are plenty of buckets for picking, so grab a pair of clippers out of the basket and take a wagon and have fun. The weather is going to be just fabulous for the next two weeks. To keep things as simple as possible, please try to keep track of how many you cut so you know your total when you get to the store.

For anyone that is needing some flower therapy, you are more than welcome to do some deadheading for me. I will make it worth your while when I get back. How does some free flowers sound. Just let me know how many rows you did when I get back.

Township 7 Winery "Art in Vines"

The Township 7 Winery "Art in Vines" Event is this Sunday August 28th from 11 am to 5 pm. The Artisan fair has over 40 vendors producing crafts, jewelry, paintings and local preserves/cuisine accompanied by live music of two local bands. I will be of course selling my Garden Bouquets. So come out and enjoy the music and do a little shopping. I always come home with a new treasure.

The Garden is just full of flowers. Here are some shots in the Garden of Snapdragons and Zinnias.
The snaps are available in Pink, White, Red, Yellow. These are such beautiful flowers. Did you know they are lightly scented?

Look at all the Colors. I planted a few new ones this year and I am really pleased.
Here is another new variety of sunflower called "Solar Power." This Bouquet also features statice, frosted explosion grass and alstromeria.

The weather looks good for the rest of the week, so come out and pick some flowers.

Glads are such a wonderful cut flowers. Lots of bang for your buck!
Here are the colors we are currently picking.

This is another of my favourite color combinations, white and blue. Blue is such a challenging color in the garden. The Delphiniums are just coming into bloom again as well as some late planted white hybrid lilies called "Eye liner". Also featured in this bouquet are Dahlias, Lysimachia, Status and Scabiosa. The garden is finally just brimming with flowers.

If you are looking for a stunning color combination then red, yellow and orange are the way to go. Cuts used in this Custom order vase where Dahlias, Calla Lilies, Hypericum, Frosted Explosion grass, Zebra Grass, crocosmium and golden rod. Wow!!

I finally have a good crop of calla lilies. I have been trying for a few years and this year all is going well. They are stunning by them selves or mixed with other flowers. Here are some of my creations.

Sunflowers and Callas. Again my current favourite color combo. Yellow and white.

Dahlias and Callas. This Yellow calla is unbeleivable!

Callas with Liatris, sea Lavender, alstromeria and status. Just Lovely!

Calla are available pre-picked in single stems, bunches or bouquets.

We also have a good supply of Dahlias. The field has lots of color. For those of you that have not visited yet, don't panic when you do not see Dahlias on the driveway. They needed a bigger area and now are just behind the store in the new flower area.

We have lots of sunflowers now thanks to the beautiful weekend weather. This is a wonderful double yellow called "Panache".

Here is Panache done with golden rod and Lysimachia. This is currently my favorite color combination, Yellow and White. So cheerful!!

Or maybe a combination of sunflowers with crocosmia, golden rod and alstromeria. This is the vase I have done this week for the store.

What else is blooming you ask? Lots! There are a limited selection of the following this week:

The start of Sunflowers!

With this continuing cooler weather the flowers are a bit slow. We are just starting with sunflower season. Here is Chocolate, Moulin Rouge and Joker. Joker is the Varigated yellow one. There are five more varieties still to come. Next should be a double yellow.

The calla lilies are slowly coming along as well. There is an assortment of color available. This purple throated calla is Picasso and looks stunning with green and white.

Or in a mixed color scheme of Yellow, purple and white.

There is an assortment of flowers just starting to bloom. We are just starting to pick some dark red sunflowers, goldenrod, hydrangeas and calla lilies. This is a hydrangea named "Anne belle". She makes a lovely display all by herself in a vase or nestled in with other flowers.
Here is a custom order bouquet done in Red, Yellow and oranges. I love the mix of grasses and foliage in this one. Unfortunately there is a very limited selection of Lilies left. Just the stamen free Pink and Sunburst orange.

Please don't get too excited about the Dahlias. This is some of the first blooms out of the greenhouse and there will not be a good supply for about another week or so.

Farewell Peonies Hello Lilies!!

Firstly, wishing farewell to another Peony season. There are just a few bouquets left so if you did not get one, please do not delay. The Peonies were even on a Photoshot. What a lovely picture to remember them. The very talented Photographer is Leanne Campbell .
The next Feature Flower in the Garden are Asiatic and Hybrid Lilies. Sometimes Lilies get a bad rap, mostly regarding scent. All the Asiatic and Hybrids are UNSCENTED. Colors currently available are the Sunset Orange "First Crown", Dark Burgandy "Black out and Yellow Stamen Free "Fata Morgana. Lily flowers last best if the stamens are removed just when the flower opens.

Other flowers coming on line this week: Daisies, double and single varieties, Liatris, purple and white, and spirea.

First I wanted to share some pictures from the "Art in Vines" event that was last Sunday. What a great day all round, beautiful weather, good music, food and of course lots of vendors. If you missed this one. Mark your calendar for Aug 28th. Township 7 winery is having this event again. Don't miss it.

So what's going on in the garden this week? We are winding up Peony season. There is very limited supply of red and a good supply of pink while they last. I hope to get one more pick in today or tomorrow. We have a good supply of Delphiniums and I will be offering the "Designers Choice" Bouquet again this week. Next up for flowers is Asiatic lilies. We should start picking by the weekend if we get some sun.

The Store will be closed July 1st, but I am available for flower pick up until noon. Just give me a call or email. We will have regular hours Saturday and Sunday.

We should have peonies for about another week or so. Sarah Bernhard, the last Peony to pick is just starting. I hope to have a good pick of her this evening.

They are just beautiful. Its nice to see some color. The baskets are either for full sun or part shade and have been fertilizer to last the whole season. This makes a great Mother's day gift. If you would like one reserved for you just let me know.

If you are worried about watering you baskets when you are on holidays, I have a great solution for you. Last year I started using an automatic watering system on my baskets and I did not have to water once the whole season. It was great not to have to worry about watering. My Misadventure!!

Well instead of going to look at lots of fabulous Dahlias, I ended up in the ER in Tacoma. Once I was stabilized (read lots of pain meds) we made a hurried trip home and went immediately to the Langley Hospital where I had surgery last Tuesday. I am now home from the hospital but will be slowly recovering for the next month or so!

So needless to say, I will not be doing any flower work for the rest of the year. The Garden is still open though!! Vivian and my dad are keeping the Dahlias, Delphiniums and sunflowers in good shape for you to come pick. They are also making sure that there are dahlias and sunflowers picked and ready to go. Don't forget about the Bucket of Dahlia. You may or may not see me out and about, but I do encourage you to still come for a visit.

We are on a Dahlia Road trip!

Just thought I would let everyone know that I will be away from the farm until Sept 18th. I am going to Washington State to look at some new Dahlia varieties and have a little holiday at the same time.

The Garden and shop are Open!!. Vivian and Dad are looking after things. Dad's job is to keep the outside Sunflower and dahlia prepicked area stocked for your convenience. He will also be looking after the Bucket of Dahlias. You can let me know if he does a good job! I have done up lots of bouquets so come and get one before they are all gone.

I will post pictures of what I found when I get back. I have quite a list of Dahlias to look at.

There is lots happening in the garden. The Dahlias are in full bloom and a new crop of sunflowers is just starting to open. The Delphiniums are also doing wonderful.

We are once again participating in the Art in the Vines Event at Township 7 Winery. The is a wonderful event with lots of different artisans and vendors and of course my flowers. Lots of Dahlias!

There are lots of Dahlias flowers for picking. Here is a new one this year called Diddly Squat. It is golden yellow and red. Looks great mixed with reds and oranges.

Once again I will be offering a pre-picked bucket of Dahlias. You can pre order your colors and have it ready for pick up. Each bucket contains 20 stems.

New Lily and Some Ideas.

This year I did a late planting of lilies and they are blooming beatifully right know. Here is one of the new ones called Eyeliner. This is another hybrid that is not scented.

I could not resist using these lilies in some of my custom vase work this week. It is so nice to have flowers that you don't normally have when the first crop of lilies are blooming. This first vase is using a Stamen Free lily. Also not scented. The stamen free lilies are available in Yellow and pink.

Here is Eyeliner mixed with delphiniums and statice. Yes, the delphiniums are back blooming!

Snapdragons and New Hybrid Lilies!

I am very pleased to announce that I have lots of Calla Lilies this year. I think I may have finally figured out how to grow them and get lots of flowers. They are available by the stem in bunches of 5 or featured in our Garden Bouquets.

Hydrangeas are also available for picking. Colors available are Creamy white, Sky blue and Purple. We will be picking Sunflowers and Oreintal Lilies very shortly. The Dahlias are covered in buds and will be in full bloom in a week or so.

Art in the Vines at Township 7 Winery

Flowers from a Country Garden is going to be at Township 7's "Art in the Vines" Artisan Fair this Saturday June 26 from 11 am to 4 pm. This is a great event with lots of artisans and vendors. Check it out on their website www.township7.com. I will be once again be selling my garden bouquets there.

I am always adding new cutting plants to the garden and this is one of my new Floribunda roses "Honey Select". Unbelievable scent and delicious color.

I will have buckets of Bouquets with me at Township 7 and the Floral Cooler on the Farm is full as well. The garden is slowly coming alive with Asiatic Lilies, Yarrow, Veronica and Shasta Daisies. I also have an assormtemt of Hybrid Lily stems in the cooler. So please come see me at Township 7 or pick up a bouquet at the Farm. Vivian will be pleased to help you with your flowers.

Custom Order Vases.

I was really busy this last week doing custom order vases and I thought I would share with you some of them. You can either bring in your own vase, purchase one or borrow one for your special event.

This first one was to celebrate a 30th Wedding Anniversary. It was a very special vase that the customer brought and it definitely turned out spectacular.
This was for a 90th Birthday.

We had a busy day yesterday with garden bouquets and have picked the garden clean. I just wanted to let everyone know that we will be waiting for the peonies to start to have anymore flowers. We should start picking the end of May. I will keep you posted.

Spring Flowers!! Limited Supply!!

There is a limited supply of Spring Flowers at this time. I just started picking Tulips, Alsteromeria and Solomon's seal. There are columbines with color coming on and a few delphinium spikes that are coloring up as well. Look at these lovely Tulips. I definitely need to plant more next year.

Plants for Sale

Raspberry canes for sale. This is the Nova variety. Nova is almost thornless and produces bright red medium sized berries, early in the season, with a very nice, but tart flavour. These are the berries that we sell frozen in the store. The canes are $4/each or 10 for $35. I have some dug and in buckets ready to plant.
I also have an assortment of perennials such as sedum and lady's mantle that are available as well. Prices dependent on size of plant.

Wow is has been I while since I posted! Spring is hopefully just around the corner. I am pleased to show you some of the new items featured in our Gift store. Designer Purses!! Oh My! You need to see these. The Purses are all reversible and feature embroidery, yarns and other embellishments.
There is also a variety of felted and knitted purses to choose from.

Below is one of my aunt's new creations, a summer weight shawl with matching accessories. The looms have been in full production all winter with lots of new rugs, shawls and scarves to see.

Holly and Evergreens are now available!

Finally with a break in the rain, the Holly and Evergreen boughs have been picked and are waiting for you to take them home. These are great for decorating a variety of ways from planters to doorways. I hope to get the store door done tomorrow. Also more new items in the Gift store. A wonderful sewer, Margaret, makes unique high quality kitchen accessories, from tea cosies to place mats and hand towels. Come have a look. You may be able to cross a few people off your list.

Well it finally happened, we got a frost last night. All the dahlias are done and the garden is closed for the winter.

Thanks to all our flower customers for another wonderful season. I so enjoyed getting to know all the new customers and of course seeing the regulars again.

The gift store is Open year round so don't forget about us for your Christmas shopping. I will keep everyone posted as new items come into the store. I will be busy over the next couple of weeks with Honey and Jams and Jellies.

Happy Thankgiving Weekend !!

I would like to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving weekend. We will be open all weekend so don't delay to get your flowers. There are still lots of dahlias blooming. I am pretty sure that this will be the last couple of days for the dahlias. The forecast is for lows of 2 C and 1C on Saturday and Sunday nights. This will mean that we will get a frost here. I am a little more prepared this year for the impending frost. All this weekend I will have buckets of Dahlias picked for you to take home. So whatever the weather does we will still have flowers for the weekend.

Its hard to believe it is Oct. Wow!! The pick of the week is Glads. Four colors to chose from, yellow, orange, pink and purple. They are just gorgeous. Below is one of my creations this week using the yellow and orange glads, dahlias and sedum. Buckets of Dahlias are still available. These have been very popular. Mixed color combination are available. If you would like a specific color combination, just let me know and I will have is picked and ready for you. This bucket is my fall color combo. They are hard to resist.

Bucket of Dahlias - Pick of the Week Sept 3

I have exciting news. This week I am offering picked buckets of Dahlias all ready to go. Each bucket will be a mix of colors. Also very reasonably priced. This will go until September 12th or until supplies last! For those of you that have been following my posts, my bucket worries are over. I have finally found a steady supply of recycled pails. So I am now happy to say that I will be providing proper picking buckets from now on. So just come for a visit. The flowers are waiting.

Soraya Sunflower - Pick of the week August 25

Here is the pick of the week. A beautiful sunflower called Soraya. If you have not picked any sunflowers yet this year, do not put it off any longer. She will only be available for a couple more weeks. Also the Delphiniums are back in bloom. Look at all the colors.

I am also having a little bit of a bucket crisis. Please try to remember to bring one or better yet bring back the one you maybe used earlier this year.

Arts in the Vines - Artisan Fair at Township 7 Winery

This Saturday I will be selling bouquets at the Artisan fair at Township 7 Winery.

This is a great event, featuring Local Artists, Artisans, Crafters, Children's Hands on "Fun area", Local Food Vendors & BBQ, Produce and Flower Vendors (that's me!!), Demonstrations, and Live Music. This will be my third year at this event. It is loads of Fun. So come out to see me and get some flowers.

The Farm is still open. There will be lots of bouquets in the cooler to chose from or if you have picked before, go and pick your own. Don't forget your clean bucket. I will have lots of buckets with me that day so please bring your own. My aunt, Vivian will be in the store.

Snapdragons: Pick of the week August 5th

The pick of the week is Snapdragons. There is so much in bloom right know that I had a hard time deciding what to chose this week. The snapdragons are one of my favourite annuals. They are so beautiful with their rich colors and delicate scent. There are four colors to pick, red, yellow and bronze shown below and of course white. In a mixed bouquet or just on their own what a great flower.

Pick of the Week July 29

The Pick of the week is Oriental Lilies. These are fragrant! There are three colors to chose from as show below. White, Pink and Blush.

Not everyone is appreciative of this flowers wonderful fragrance. So here is an idea, if it does not work to have these in the house, try them outside in a covered area. This is my outdoor vase. You get a wonderful scent everytime you walk past. Just make sure the vase does not get direct sunlight. I also put some decorative glass beads in the bottom of the vase to add a little color and also to weight it down, just in case the wind comes up. Judy.

Bouquet and Pick of the Week July 8th

Bouquet of the week. I love this combination, red and white. This bouquet had white asiatic lilies, lysimachia, crocosmium, and alstroemeria. Here is the pick of the week. Pink Asiatic lilies. Isn't this so pretty.

The garden is progressing fast. The snapdragons, zinnias, dahlias and sunflowers are all covered in buds. A few days of heat will bring these flowers on.

Bouquet and Pick of the Week June 25th

Here is the Bouquet of the Week. This is with yellow Asiatic lilies, shades of pink yarrow, pink alstroemeria, and of course a blue delphinium. These yellow lilies are new this year. The variety is "Fata Morgana" which is stamen free and double. So if you love lilies but do not like to remove that stamens, this one is for you. There will also be a pink and orange which are stamen free. This is the special of the week. The delphiniums are at their peak, but because of the torrential down pour of rain, I have had to pick lots of stems. So for this week, Delphiniums will be bunched and ready to go in the cooler for you. At a great price too!! Bundles of 9 stems for $10.

Here is the pick of the week. This Asiatic lily is called"Black out". What a deep rich color. I can already see this in a fabulous bouquet of white and Burgundy. I must get busy and make one up today!

The sun is supposed to come out for the next couple of days, so perfect for picking.

Bouquet and Pick of the Week June 18th

Here is the bouquet of the week. This has got be me my favourite color combination, pink and purple. This bouquet has light purple delphiniums, pink peonies, pink yarrow, white daisies and of course a little bit of ladies mantle. Pick of the Week is Delphiniums. Colors range from indigo blue to pale lavender to white, with either black or white centers. Truly a site to behold in full bloom.

Get your bucket and come picking. For those of you that love lilies, the asiatics are starting to color up. May even be able to pick a few this weekend. I have seven different asiatic to pick this year and three orientals.

Pick of the Week is Peony 'Sarah Bernhardt'. This is my favourite peony. Beautiful pink with a splash of dark pink and lightly scented. The flower also dries beautifully. Here is the bouquet of the week. A darker pink peony (not sure of the name), pink astrantia, and pink and yellow alstroemeria.

Other plants that are starting to bloom are Delphiniums and yarrow. Grab your picking buckets and come for a visit.

Pick of the week of course are Peonies. Are they not just beautiful. Colors available at this time are Dark red, dark pink, medium pink and white with a red fleck. The pink and white are lightly scented. Due to the heat I have prepicked alot for the cooler. Come and get yourself some. The bouquet of the week is a combination of pinks. The medium pink peony with pink alstroemeria and of course some lady's mantle.

The Garden to open June 3rd for Picking!!

The Garden will be open for picking starting Wednesday June 3rd, with Peonies, Delphiniums, Iris, Astrantia and More.
Here are a few of my Peony Bouquets that are available in the cooler.
This one is Dark red and Light pink. This one has blue delphiniums, dark pink alstreomaria and dark red peonies.

This one is very colorful with Yellow, pink and red.

Here is one of the Irises that is available in the cutting garden. Looks smashing with the yellow and orange alstromaria. That bouquet sold before I took a picture of it.

Dahlia cages

I hope everyone enjoyed our beautiful weekend weather. Hopefully this weekend will be just as nice. I am getting ready to plant my Dahlia tubers and other assorted annuals for the picking garden. Below is a picture of the plant cages a use for lots of my cutting plants. In particular, Dahlias, Delphiniums and Peonies. I cut them in half for the Peonies.
They are a must have for anyone growing Dahlias, especially if your plants get as large as mine. We have made up some extra this year, so I have them available to purchase. They are $5 each and well worth the investment to keep your Dahlias in Prime picking condition. This week we are still picking Lilac. Garden bouquets are on hold for a few days until I get some more flowers ready to pick. My plan is to open the cutting garden for May 27th.

We finally have some flowers. Yeah!! Here are two bouquets that are in the cooler ready to find a new home. One is Purple, White and Green using Purple and Green Tulips, Purple columbine, white alstromeria, and Solamen's Seal. This one is a classic color combination of Blue, Pink and Yellow with Blue Bells, Bleeding hearts, alstromeria, and laurel.

Also available in the Cooler are Lilac stems. This is our early purple. I will be picking the white this week as well. We will also have a dark purple and striped purple by next week.

Wow it seems like a long time since my last post. We had a great holiday. I have no idea where the time went. Thought I would show you what Vivian has been up to. She is back making rag rugs. These are one of her most popular items. They are made from recycled fabrics and are custom made to your color theme. The grey and brown one pictured above has just come off the Loom. U-pick Garden closed for Season!!

Last night the temperature went done to -2. Oh no!! All the dahlias were frozen this morning. It was so sad to see them this way. All the beautiful blossoms frozen. As they thawed, they turned black and collapsed. So thats it for flowers this year.

Thanks to everyone for coming out and enjoying my garden. We will start doing Spring Bouquets in May and the U-pick Garden will open the beginning of June 2009.

The Gift Store is still open!! Don't forget about us for your christmas decorating and Gift giving. I will have Poinsettias, holly and greenery starting the end of November.
